Francis George Ford was born in Brightlingsea, Essex in 1898 to Francis William Ford and Elizabeth Mary (nee Jarvis).  Francis William was born in Bermuda and his mother in Sri Lanka.

In 1901 the family were living at 17 Station Road in Taunton and Francis William is listed as a licensed victualler.  The household comprised their three children, Ethelreda, Francis George and Dorothy plus two servants.  By 1911 Francis William and Elizabeth have three more children, Phyllis, Harold and Gordon, and Francis is the licensed victualler living at the Crown and Sceptre Hotel in Station Road.

Francis George Ford at some point moved to Weston-super-Mare.  In the war he served with the London Regiment as part of the 58th Division.  He was killed in action on the first day of the Second Battle of Bapaume, part of the Second Battle of the Somme, on 31st August 1918.
