John Bazley, a labourer, was the son of Eli and Jane Bazley.  His father was a farm bailiff living in Ruishton, and they later moved to 43 Winchester Street, Taunton.

His unit was in the Battle of Langemarck, which took place near Ypres in Flanders from 16th to 18th August 1917, when he was killed in action.
