What we do know from enlistment records is that the Charles on the War memorial was living at 8 Whitehall. He enlisted very early in the war in the 6th Battalion Somerset light Infantry (the same Battalion as Frederick Fuge) and served 5 months at home before being posted to France where he served for 8 months before his death in September 1915. We know that the 6th Battalion was based on the Ypres Salient in 1915. Charles is commemorated on the Menin Gate, which is the memorial to 54,000 men whose graves are not known.
