Aged 21 years old at time of his death, Arthur was single and was the son of Arthur and Annie Walker. In the 1911 census, aged 14yrs, he was apprenticed to a house painter.

He joined the Royal Horse Artillery with the 1/1st Somerset Battery.  In 1917 this Battery joined the Inverness-shire and Ayrshire Batteries to form the 18th Brigade RHA TF and served in the Middle East.  He was killed on 18th April 1917 during the 2nd Battle of Gaza when an aeroplane dropped a bomb on the advancing battery.
