The only child of John and Ellen Trebble of 34 Wood Street, Taunton , Ernest aged 17 was working as shop assistant to a saddler in 1911.

He enlisted, aged 22 years 5 months, on 8th November 1915 and was described as a motor driver. In February 1916 was transferred from 620 MT Company(Regents Park) to 634 Company and  embarked at Avonmouth to join the British Expeditionary Force, East Africa and arrived at Kilindini in April 1916. The following month he was admitted to hospital and discharged in June.  He was admitted ‘in the field’ and then discharged again in late June.  In September he was admitted to Morogoro suffering from malaria and on the 1st October died at the 52nd(Lowland) Clearing Station at Morogoro from ‘blackwater fever due to field operations’.

He died leaving a fiancée, Miss F.E. Clapp of 26, Jubilee Street, Rowbarton.
