Thomas Squires was married to Mrs M.J. Squires and lived at 44 Wood Street.  As a married older man serving towards the end of the war he was probably conscripted, and joined the 11th Battalion of the Cameron Highlanders.  These formed part of the 40th Division on the Western Front and took part in the Hundred Days Offensive forming the Allied advance at the end of the war.  It is during this final phase of the war that Thomas died, in the Nord region of France, close to the Belgian border.
